PHENOMENOLOGY AND POLITICS: PATHS – ENCOUNTERS – DEBATES
Phenomenology is, in its origin, a method for analyzing and describing lived experience. As such, it primarily has an epistemological and ontological vocation. However, is it possible to broaden its horizon, extending it into more practical fields, such as politics? Or is there something in phenomenology itself that is essentially apolitical (or even anti-political), a resistance to any form of discourse centered on the collective at the expense of the subjective? These questions remain open. And to them are added others, such as whether there is a left-wing and a right-wing phenomenology; how phenomenologists position themselves regarding the conceptual alternative of community/society (Gemeinschaft/Gesellschaft); or the particular relationship that phenomenology seems to have, in some cases, with Marxist heuristics.
This colloquium aims to open a space for dialogue around the intersection of phenomenology and politics. Drawing inspiration from both historical and contemporary debates, it also seeks to reflect, phenomenologically, on some of today's pressing issues—such as cosmopolitanism, multiculturalism, domination, the Anthropocene, the contradictions of capitalism, among others. By addressing these topics, the colloquium aims not only to explore the limits and possibilities of the encounter between phenomenology and politics but also to contribute to the construction of a critical perspective on our time.
