On May 27th, at 2:15 PM, an open lecture for the course unit Theory of the Image will take place in Room 405 of the Faculty of Arts and Letters at the University of Beira Interior. The lecture, titled “The Ancients and the Image,” will be delivered by Professor Dr. Delfim Ferreira Leão.
Delfim Ferreira Leão is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and a researcher at the Centre for Classical and Humanistic Studies of the University of Coimbra. His main areas of scholarly interest include ancient history, Greek law and political theory, theatrical pragmatics, and ancient prose fiction, on which he has published more than 200 works in international journals, books, and book chapters. He is also actively engaged in the field of open science and scientific communication. Together with Lautaro R. Lanzillotta, he co-coordinates the Brill’s Plutarch Studies series.
Among other roles, he was Director of the University of Coimbra Press (2011–2021), is Vice-Rector for Culture and Open Science at the University of Coimbra (since 2019), and a member of the UNESCO Open Science Advisory Committee. He is also a member of EOSC (European Open Science Cloud), participating in the Working Group on “Research Careers, Recognition and Credit,” and is a member of the Executive Committee of the OPERAS consortium (an ESFRI infrastructure), contributing to European projects such as OPERAS-P, TRIPLE, OPERAS-PLUS, and PALOMERA.
