Collaboration Project for the Development of an international study network on Michel Henry
In 2024, an agreement was celebrated between the University of Beira Interior (UBI) and the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM), Brazil. Additionally, an amendment to the existing Cooperation Protocol between UBI and the Franciscana University, Brazil, has been established, which has been in place since 2014 and 2013, respectively. The purpose of this amendment is to establish a partnership aimed at the development of research and complementary activities concerning the joint study of the work of French philosopher Michel Henry, as both institutions recognize the philosophical and cultural importance of his thought and the necessity of its study within the framework of specialized international research in the field of Philosophy.
This project aims to establish collaboration in academic activities among researchers, professors, and students in the field of Philosophy at the first, second, third cycles, and post-doctorate levels from these institutions. To ensure the implementation of the objectives of this project, the involved parties commit to creating and supporting, by mutual agreement, a joint work plan to be implemented by the network of researchers participating in this project, with the aim of:
- Allowing the circulation of content, researchers, and master's, doctoral, and post-doctoral students at an international level. - Promoting the organization of congresses and colloquia at national and international levels, as well as the functioning of permanent seminars within the institutions, where the results of the work done will be presented.
The development of complementary activities is sought, with the aim of disseminating Michel Henry's work in the Portuguese-speaking world and culture, particularly through possible translations of his publications into Portuguese, as well as the publication of original studies, proceedings from scientific meetings, texts, and monographic works.
Collaboration will specifically occur between the Reading and Discussion Group on Michel Henry, linked to the PRAXIS Research Unit – Center for Philosophy, Politics, and Culture at UBI, and the Páthos Research Group: Material Phenomenology, Intersubjectivity, and Religion, linked to the Undergraduate and Graduate Programs in Philosophy at UFSM. Additionally, collaboration will include the Research Group “Dimensions of Human Action,” connected to the Undergraduate Philosophy Program, the Master's in Teaching Humanities and Languages (MEHL), and the Franciscana Institute of Spirituality and Humanities (IFEH) at Franciscana University, Santa Maria, RS.
An initial period of two years (renewable for an equal period) is anticipated for the aforementioned scientific research project, which will address scientific issues in the field of philosophy, referencing international standards that contribute significantly to the advancement of knowledge and yield indicators of scientific production during the course of the project.
The coordination of the project at the universities must ensure the consistent participation of members in the proposed activities. The commitment, particularly to the development of philosophy and the production of quality scientific output, must be maintained.
