Dirk Michael Hennrich eng

Research Fellow

Dirk Michael Hennrich is a PhD Researcher in the Philosophy of Nature and Environment. He was PhD Researcher at the School of Arts and Humanities and the Centre of Philosophy of the University of Lisbon from 2019 to 2025, PhD Researcher at the Portuguese National Funding Agency for Science and Technology (FCT) from 2015 to 2019 and Researcher for Portuguese Language and Culture at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation from 2014 to 2015. He received his PhD (summa cum laude) in 2014 at the University of Lisbon with a grant from the FCT and holds a Master's degree (magna cum laude) in Philosophy, Modern German Literature and History from the University of Basel/Switzerland (2003).

He is a foreign collaborator of the research group Ethics and Rights of the Animals from Diversitas at the University of São Paulo/Brazil, foreign collaborator at the POIESE Laboratory of Urban Policy and Aesthetics at UFRGS/Brazil, foreign collaborator at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Semiotics of Culture and Media (CISC) at PUC-SP/Brazil, and foreign collaborator at LAPSI - Laboratory of Socio-Environmental Psychology and Intervention at USP/Brazil. He is currently leading the international project "Antropocênica" (Portugal/2022, Brazil/2023 and Portugal and Cape Verde/2024), which will continue with three further events in Brazil in 2026, Bolivia in 2027 and Argentina in 2028 and which focuses on the study of the Anthropocene, Technosphere, Landscape, Ancestrality and the connection between Colonialism and Extractivsm (https://www.antropocenica.ooo/).

His research output is mainly concentrated around Philosophy of Nature, Philosophy of Landscape (Landscape Studies), Animal Philosophy (Human-Animal Studies), and Philosophy of Technology and Media Philosophy (and their intersections) with numerous publications, conference papers, and oral presentations, particularly in Europe and South America.
