Hélder Telo

Researcher (Praxis/UBI)

Hélder Telo recently became a research fellow at the Praxis Center, where he develops a research project entitled “Care and Truth in Ethics: A Heideggerian Reflection in Dialogue with Plato and Foucault”.

He completed his PhD in Philosophy at the Nova University of Lisbon (2018) with the thesis Unexamined Life on Trial: A Crucial Problem in Plato’s Writings. He carried out part of his doctoral research at Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg (2009-10 and 2014) and at Boston College (2010-11). During this time, he received grants from FCT and the Center for Collaborative Research [SFB] 1015 Muße/Otium.

Subsequently, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Nova Institute of Philosophy (Nova University of Lisbon) between 2020 and 2022, where he developed a research project on the art of living and the relationship to truth in Plato and contemporary thought. He was a collaborator of the Institute of Philosophical Studies (University of Coimbra) between 2009 and 2019, collaborated with the ERC project “Honor in Classical Greece” (2018-2022) and collaborates presently with the Nova Philosophy Institute (Nova University of Lisbon), where he integrates the team of the FCT exploratory project “Mapping Philosophy as a Way of Life: An Ancient Model, A Contemporary Approach” (2023-24).

Between 2019 and 2022 he taught multiple free courses and several modules of the Complementary Course in Philosophy at the Luís Krus Center (Nova University of Lisbon).
