Irene Borges Duarte

Emeritus Professor (Praxis/UÉ)
Emeritus Professor at the University of Évora. She obtained her degrees from the Universities of Lisbon (BA and MA), Complutense de Madrid (PhD, 1994), with regular pre and post-doctoral periods in Freiburg im Breisgau and Mainz. As a researcher at PRAXIS, she coordinated the Phenomenology group. She was director of the PhD program at the University of Évora (2011-2022) and President of the Portuguese Association of Phenomenological Philosophy (2011-2017). Currently, she is a member of the board of the Ibero-American Society of Heideggerian Studies (since 2017) and a member of the Portuguese Association of Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and the Winnicott Portugal Research Group. Her research activity focuses on a hermeneutic ontology with a phenomenological basis, with the following main areas of attention: (1) Phenomenological Existential Analysis, based on Heidegger, in relation to Psychoanalysis; (2) The Phenomenology of Technology in its cultural and environmental manifestations; (3) The question of language and translation, both theoretically and practically, especially in the context of the "Heidegger in Portuguese" project.
